“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

Jesus Prayer

If you want a list of things people really care about, you probably only need to look at their prayer list. The things that cause people to bow their heads and turn to the throne of God are some of the most personal and important things in their lives. They are the names of the people they love and the situations that pains their hearts. These are the things they think about the most and are overwhelmingly grateful for.

This is what makes it so remarkable that you and I are on Jesus’ prayer list. In fact, you were on his prayer list two thousand years ago. The night before his death, Jesus took the time to pray for you. Even knowing all that he was about to face that night―betrayal, abandonment, abuse of every kind―Jesus made sure that you were on his prayer list. This was no one-time occurrence either. The Bible tells us that Jesus is in heaven right now remembering you. He is speaking your name, remembering you to his heavenly Father.

Jesus prays for you because he loves you. You are the most important thing in the world to him. Your pain, pains his heart. Your eternal good is his highest desire. He prays for you because he knows you, has forgiven all your sins, and you are his dear child. For all these reasons and more you are on Jesus’ prayer list.

The next time you pray through your prayer list, remember that Jesus prays for you because he cares for you.

Jesus, thank you for praying for me. Continue to remember me in your prayers until I see you face to face. Amen.
